OK been waiting for this one – Woodies Roundup, You’ve got a friend in me!
Andy Toys welcomed Brom & Becks to the playroom, with a strengthened Chelmsford side fresh from a couple of good performances over recent weeks. Woodie and Buzz (Andy’s centre back and sweeper combo) reunited after recent injury, struggled to contain B&B England centre forward, the target for most passes forward from B&B. Buzz promptly turned the ball over on the hallway line presenting our favourite CF with the opportunity to run at Andy’s defence. Making no mistake the opportunity was converted after beating 3 players and our goaltender Stinky Pete. Chelmsford played by far the better hockey with a much strengthened midfield, pressing the B&B goal and defence. Our one time passing game paid dividends with the award of a Short Corner, which was expertly converted by Slinky Dog Hansen. Chelmsford continued to press and adsorb the B&B breakaways, Stinky Pete making an excellent save to his left from our favorite centre forward, Woody repeating the heroics shortly after with a stick save of a goal-ward flick. B&B defence frailties’ were further exposed with great team play from Andy’s toys. Hamm Ed converting a goalmouth opportunity, leaving our heroes ahead at half time.
With our game plan set from skipper Rex to have Buzz and Woodie teaming up on the B&B danger man and continued rotation of an excellent squad, we took the field full of confidence. B&B continued to play a long ball game providing our midfield with plenty of position, Buzz and Woody contained the forwards threat but had to call on Stinky, for a save off his helmet which hit the outside of the Chelmsford post. Bullseye Toby met the challenge of maintaining law and order with emotions running high on both sides. Chelmsford were unlucky not to capitalise with a number of attacking SC’s and open play keeping the B&B GK busy. Chelmsford closed out the second half without a change to the score line, picking up our second 3 points in the last 3 games, an excellent start to 2018, bring on Surbiton for next weeks’ encounter.
