We are very sorry to announce that Fred Matthews passed away on Friday 30 August.

Fred was a founder member and goalkeeper of the Evergreens until ill health caused him to give up playing. He was an enthusiastic tourer with the Evergreens to destinations both in the UK and Europe making many friends on the way. He was also club fixture secretary for many years up to season 2016/17. Although unable to get up to Chelmer Park in recent years he was a close follower of the fortunes of the club and the Evergreens in particular. We offer sincere condolences to his sons Ian and David.

Fred’s funeral will be at 1130 on Wednesday 16 October at Chelmsford Crematorium. Fred’s sons have asked that there are no floral tributes, but would like to welcome all Fred’s friends and fellow hockey players to the funeral and join them afterwards at Chelmsford Hockey Club.
