The EGs made the long treck around the M25 to Thames Ditton on Saturday and played on the pitch soon to be played on by National League Surbiton 1s who were playing Holcombe after us.
The Evergreens took time to settle into their stride and, although they created a number of chances in the first half , the half time whistle found them 0-1 down.
After a rousing half time briefing by skipper Peter Hollebon, the EGs started the second half with more resolve, better shape and incisive passing. This resulted in two quick goals from Ed de Mello putting them 2 -1 in front and in the driving seat.
As often happens with Evergreens fixtures this year, their superior fitness began to tell and after more pressure, Ed de Mello finished off a good move to complete his hat-trick. Although Surbiton managed to pull one goal back, the Evergreens maintained their shape and discipline to secure a well deserved win.
They now top Group B of the London Grand Masters league with 4 wins out of 4.
Chelmford: 3
