Men’s 2nd XI v Potters Bar

adminMatch Reports

2016 was a tough year for the Men’s 2s, with relegation, the loss of several integral players and results very hard to come by.  But there is none of that nonsense to be had for 2017.

After two weeks off due to frozen pitches and thus cancelled games, finally the M2s kicked off their 2017 campaign against Potters Bar 1s.  Potters Bar, who were sitting comfortably 4th in the league, would have been hoping to add 3 points against their bottom of the league counterparts.

However from the off Potters bar realised they had a game on their hands, as Chelmsford’s press, expertly led by George Mann and Alex Haynes, made it very hard for PB to get out their own half.

Chelmsford had the better possession and attacking chances in the first half, but a moment of fortune did occur when just before the half-time whistle, PB managed to put the ball into the back of Chelmsford’s net…but only to find the referee’s whistle had already gone.  0-0 at half-time!

Chelmsford started the second half even stronger and midway through, Myles Shadbolt, deep in his own corner, expertly weaved past a couple of PB players to find a cutting ball into midfield, eliminating over half the oppposition.

The attack continued swiftly with Rich de Boltz sliding a ball into Sam Jackson near the edge of the D.  Jackson calmly played it across the D to a delighted George Mann, who eats these kind of opportunities breakfast, and he convincingly dispatched the ball into the bottom corner.  1-0 Chelmsford!

And this result Chelmsford held on to til the end of the game and thus starting the 2017 100% record..perhaps the start of the great escape!
