Another league match at home and this time against East London 7s who were delighted to travel to Chelmsford especially when they found out they had changing rooms; the pitch was close to the clubhouse where they would get teas and it had a bar!
With a full squad and coach Richard Ross on the sideline for support the L7s were ready for a challenging match. The 7s held off a barrage from East London in the D in the first 20 minutes and then unfortunately succumbed to two goals in relatively quick succession. We battled on with end to end play but nothing would connect for L7s and East London proved very strong, running through our defence literally and by half time we were 3-0 down!
Fortified by jelly babies and a team talk from coach Richard, saying to just keep the play simple we were ready to go again. Our defence stood strong and worked very hard to clear the ball from the D. But a clash of heads between an East London player and Sally brought the game to a standstill as first aid was sought. Fortunately, East London had a Doctor and a Paramedic on their team and Ice packs were administered to both players with Sally’s cut head swiftly seen to and blood mopped up.
After one more goal for the visitors, there was another incident with goalkeeper Gill knocked over. Ice pack number 3 and medical support on hand and Gill joined Sally and the East London casualty on the side.
Brave Henna offered to go as kicking back and was given strict instructions to be very careful and after 5 minutes on the sideline, thankfully Gill returned to the pitch. The final score was 0-5 to East London 7s with their captain complementing the Chelmsford L7s for a very hard fought match, the score line not doing us justice.
Player of the match went to goalkeeper Gill, special mentions to Emily who had a great match and Henna for stepping up as kicking back. Well done to everyone for working and trying hard!
Thank you as always to our coach Richard Ross for all your support, the First Aid kit is now replenished and we are ready to meet Southend and Benfleet 3’s in our next match.
The Ladies 7s Player of the month proud to be sponsored by Purcell Locksmiths.
