Result: 2-1
Scorers: Kate Robinson, Collette Ager
Chelmsford worked hard to complete the double over West Herts with this worthy win, but at times during the match hard to dig deep to exert domination over the game. The Chelmsford faithful never doubted the result but tension late on required control by Chelmsford to make sure of the points.
Early parts of the game saw the teams vying for control and largely neutralising each others creative play. Chelmsford’s captain, Kate Maxey was hugely influential in building attacking play from the back. Elona Woodford and Georgia Davies were causing the visitors problems in midfield and excellent front running from Kate Robinson and Mollie Redgrove saw Chelmsford gain the upper hand. Despite some positive sorties into their opponents D, Chelmsford were unable to find the net and the score remained 0-0 at half time.
Chelmsford immediately pressed for control of the game from the restart. A tenacious tackle from Julia Butterworth in midfield gave the home team possession and the ball was fed through to Sophie Green who executed an excellent run to the right and knocked the ball into a crowded D. As the ball fell loose Kate Robinson reacted quickly to drive the ball home for Chelmsford’s deserved lead.
West Herts struggled to respond against a determined Chelmsford side and 10 minutes later a long ball through to the forwards was picked up and smartly cracked into the goal by Collette Ager and the score line at 2-0 better reflected Chelmsford’s superiority.
In the final minutes a consolation goal from the visitors created some tension but the result was in no doubt and Chelmsford take much satisfaction from an excellent squad performance.
Chelmsford’s next match is on Saturday 18 February away to Harleston Magpies. Pushback is at 2.00pm.
