On a windy afternoon Chelmer Park was ready for an epic home game against Southgate. Despite water trouble, the team stepped onto the pitch hungry for the win. Pressure by Chelmsford provided many attacking chances yet none found the goal.
However a goal scramble, Kate Maxey put the ball in the back of the net from open play. Good defending from the back 4 prevented Southgate having any shots on target. On the stroke of half time, a penalty corner was won by Chelmsford. Julia Butterworth hit the ball across the goal with Collette Ager ready to place in the back of the goal. 2-0.
In the second half Chelmsford began strong, soaked up the pressure and continued to work hard. The hard work paid off when Alex Went smashed the ball home for her first national league goal. 3-0. After resilient defending at short corners, Southgate were kept out of the goal. However, against the run of play Southgate were awarded a penalty stroke. 3-1.
After a hard fought game with took the well deserved 3 points.
