Chelmsford Men’s 1st XI vs. Peterborough City

Result: Loss 8-2

Last Saturday Chelmsford men’s 1st XI ended the 2017-18 season with a home loss to league champions Peterborough City. A hard fought game where the score line underplays the quality of the match – the greens lost 8-2 to finish the season in 7th place. Though not the last game they would have hoped for, the season has been a thorough success. Coach Shuhel Malique and manager Angus Rayner have stabilised the ship after the team narrowly avoided relegation last year, now finishing comfortably mid table – a fine platform to build on next year.

This year the Men’s 1st and 2nd XI were lucky enough to be sponsored by Abercorn plant and garden centre, who provided the entire squads with smart new club rain jackets. A big thank you again to Abercorn.

Chelmsford have proven their mettle this year performing well against, and often taking points from, the league’s top sides. Several young players have cemented their places in first team, with giving sterling performances week in. And we have seen a return to the field of many players after seasons away from the club – a welcome sight to see them back in the green.

Looking forward to pushing for a top 4 finish next season!
