Following a tough game last week, Chelmsford 4XI were hungry for a win. Despite having the bare eleven, Chelmsford started in good form with a solid formation and accurate passing. Not allowing Southend & Benfleet a chance on the ball, Chelmsford had a flurry of short corners to hammer the ball home and secure an early lead.

With the Chelmsford team in high spirits, the ball was passed with pace building from the strong midfielders Daisy Alderson & Beats Smith. Both delivered the ball to the right and left sides of the pitch creating more opportunities to sneak in behind the Southend & Benfleet defence and secure not one, but three more goals.

Starting the second half with a comfortable lead, Chelmsford continued their good form. Without any subs, the pace dropped a little allowing Southend & Benfleet more time on the ball. With a few breaks down their right wing, the Chelmsford defensive line was relied upon to clear the ball from any danger. Seeing away a penalty corner, Chelmsford were able to capitalise on the break down the right flank. A turnover of play meant the forwards had to step in to regain possession and in doing so, feisty right-winger Abigail Burrows snapped her stick in half – luckily for her, a spare was available so she could carry on with the final ten minutes of the game. The final minutes saw defender Katherine Coates swap her usual warnings (and cards) from umpires with a spectacular reverse-stick goal and left-wing Wendy Daden scoring her third goal – and Chelmsford’s seventh – between the keeper’s legs.

The final whistle blown, a weary Chelmsford team celebrated a mighty win, providing them with even more confidence against Havering next week.
