Chelmsford Ladies 2’s travelled to Holcolmbe Hockey Club with a new yet ‘youthful’ squad with too many debuts to mention. With neither team having points on the table and the only second elevens in the league it was always going to be an interesting match. Chelmsford had to absorb some early pressure as Holcolmbe’s experienced forward line tried to drop balls into space behind the CHC back line. Sarah Eagar managed the defensive unit well organising them quickly to avoid any further penetration.
CHC took this to their advantage and pressed forward but were unable to get into the oppositions ‘D’. Holcolmbe scored after a quick break that by-passed their own midfield. It was a well-executed shot taken wide and placed into the netting. At half time, the onus was put onto CHC to get into the oppositions ‘D’ the forward line became more dynamic, leading and re-leading. Chelmsford were able to pass the ball quicker exploiting the space behind the defenders enabling more shots and a number of short corners. Chelmsford equalised from a well taken strike from Sarah Eagar slotted in on the left post. This was quickly doubled by Lauren Wilson who deflected in another short corner routine from Sam Wilkinson on the right post. CHC took the upper hand, pressuring Holcolmbe around the pitch and often forcing them into errors. Holcolmbe were forced to clear a number of additional shots off of the line. The midfield and defensive units kept tight as the Holcolmbe forward line tried to equalise. Lou Acton put the game to bed when she scored a well-taken goal, wide and lifted over the Holcolmbe keeper.
The Game finished 3-1 and Chelmsford will go onto play Folkestone at Home next week.
