Chelmsford Ladies 1st XI vs. Harleston Magpies

Nicole HullMatch Reports

Result: Lost 6-1

Scorers: K Robinson

A tough away match saw Chelmsford deliver some quality hockey, only to lose out to mixed fortunes in converting short corners.  The opening ten minutes saw both sides seeking midfield dominance but in a press forward, Harleston won a couple of short corners and converted the second to take the lead.

Chelmsford’s response was impressive with Kate Robinson and Alex Went leading the charge from the front.  A series of no fewer than five short corners were won and whilst all were executed skillfully, Chelmsford’s efforts went wide or were well saved.  As the half progressed, Harleston managed another short corner and an open play goal.  Then the high-paced attack from Harleston saw three further short corners and another goal to take a 5-0 lead into the break.

Chelmsford’s commitment to fighting back was evident right from the start of the second half.  Controlling much of the game through good interplay and formation, Chelmsford were awarded another short corner but Sophie Green’s bullet shot edged just outside the post.

Harleston won and successfully converted another short corner and lesser teams than Chelmsford might have capitulated at this point.  But good teamwork and commitment saw Chelmsford press Harleston back.  With some great chances made at goal by Nicole Hull and Alex Went, led to a neat open play move which gave Kate Robinson the opportunity to cut to the right of the D and deftly slide the ball past the goalkeeper for a well-deserved entry on the scoresheet.

Chelmsford’s next game is at home on Saturday 17 February against Bedford with pushback at 2.00pm
