Ladies 7th XI v Colchester

adminMatch Reports

Another league match at home and this time against a very strong Colchester 4s side who won 7-0 at the start of the season.

Nell took over clipboard duties due to an injured thumb, Get Well Soon Nell.

The game started and the Ladies 7s were under the cosh for the first 15 minutes but some great defending and equally good goalkeeping kept them out. Unfortunately Colchester did eventually score.

The team worked even harder and began creating chances of their own with both Suzanne and Megan having chances and both being taken out by the opposing goalkeeper. The team held out until literally the last hit of the half when Colchester made it 2-0.

With the news that Ed Sheeran was watching on the water pitch the team came out revitalised. They more than matched their opponents, unfortunately having played so well Colchester scored a third. This spurred the team on and we were unlucky not to get a goal back.

A sign of the improvement of the team came at the final whistle when the Colchester captain came over and commented on how much improvement she noticed between the first game against them this year and Saturday’s match.

Joint players of the match went to Karen Gibson and Emily Jenkins. With special mentions to Jess, Megan, GK Gill and Sophie.

Special thanks to Ed Sheeran and Crista Cullen for taking pictures with the mascots and making a lot of people’s days.

No match this week, next game is 11th March, Upminster 5s on the sand pitch pushback 12.30pm.
