Chelmsford 1st XI started the game brightly creating plenty of chances causing plenty of problems for Saffron Walden. The breakthrough came from some magnificent movement from the forward Declan Millane to deflect a strong pass from Ed Fleet into the back of the net, the keeper had no chance. It did not take long for the away side to equalise. After some well-timed changes to revitalise the front line the home side gained a short corner. The first attempt was blocked by the foot of a defender resulting in another short corner, we did not waste this opportunity with TC sliding it to Micheal Millane to tap it in at the back post. The third goal came from some questionable goal keeping by the oppositions keeper which resulted in a penalty flick, a few strong words were exchanged which saw the Saffron Walden keeper sent for an early shower and the away team down to 10 men. After a lengthy break our resident penalty flick taker Vas, slots his second goal of the Season from the spot to make it 3-1. The home side were trying their best to break down the defence to no avail until we were caught on the counter attack which the home side finished to make it 3-2. We responded in good fashion with some strong play from our captain down the right flank to set up Tom Woolatt to make it 4-2. The away side did better than expected with 10 men and did not let Chelmsford have their own way for the remainder of the game and the only goal of the second half came after some impressive stick skills from former captain Emu, when the ball fell to Declan Millane who did not hesitate to rifle the ball home to make it 5-2. A lot to work on for our game next week but a very important three points. Man of the match was a joint one this week going to Declan Millane and Ed fleet while DOD was Shuhel Malique.
