Chelmsford Ladies 3rd XI vs. Thurrock

Result: Loss 1-3

Scorers: Karen

A tough game this week with a score that didn’t reflect our true performance. We had majority of ball possession and demonstrated some good play amongst the team. We just need to focus on the last third finishing the ball off into the net! In the first half Chelmsford put Thurrock under pressure well and were forcing errors which led to many short corners, and with only 4 of their players in the D and an accurate push out from Sophie, Karen put in a great strike from the top of the D which Sophie managed to slide in, past the goalie. This earned Karen the player of the match. This left Chelmsford 1-0 up for most of the first half, until 5 minutes before the end of the half, Thurrock broke through with some good transfers of the ball and despite good defending and excellent goal keeping, and they managed to score, equalling the score line. They kept pushing at us and eventually gained a short corner, followed by another, both successfully cleared. But on another attack shortly after, they gained yet another corner, which took us to the end of the half. With all 10 players around the D, and our 5 in the goal they ended up scoring another, putting the score at half time at a frustrating 2-1 to Thurrock. The second half of the game saw many short corners for both sides, although none actually converted. Thurrock scored their final goal from a cross from the baseline to the p-spot and placed in the corner despite best efforts from the goalie and defence. Desperate to score again, Chelmsford were pushing to attack with everyone stepping up and in the last second of the game, gaining a short corner, though we didn’t manage to convert it which left the score at a disappointing 3-1 to Thurrock. However, great efforts were put in and well played to the whole team!
